Questions

wood floors vs carpet

We are moving and trying to decide between a beautiful house with wood floors and a 2 story townhouse that is carpeted. Our son is only 6 weeks old but eventually he'll be crawling around. Carpet or wood floors?

The home with the wood floors is pretty amazing but crawling on wood floors can't be too much fun.

Has anyone had experience with wood floors?

I have both wood and carpet in my house. I like wood b/c it looks great and has that warm glow look at nights. So my next house will have wood flooring.

One idea is to buy a inexpensive area rug in heavy-use areas. I noticed with my boys that the wood never bother them; they generally like to slide than crawl. Also, my carpet in the living room is thrashed (play-do, cookies, juice bars, gum, ect...) after 5 years of use, the wood floors however look as good as the day I bought my home 6 years ago.

We prefer wood, it's so easy to take care of. When our boys were little the pediatrician recommended wood for their health. The kids loved having a carpet in the family room though.

I vote for wood with the area carpets. you can get large ones from Ikea for pretty cheap.

My son is one year old now and he will tell you (in his own version of English) that crawling is lots of fun whether it's on wood floors or not.

We have wood floors and it hasn't been a problem at all. I think all in all they are probably better hygenically speaking.

After all the spitting up, peeing, and even pooping that we've had on our wood floors, I'm so glad we don't have carpet! It is harder on the knees learning to crawl. Our son learned to crawl on a ridgerest sleeping pad for camping and there's lots of other options of course. Once the kids knew how to crawl, having to crawl on wood floors was no big deal.

Wood is my preference, but is this really the deciding factor between the houses? Not really that hard to more or less "convert" from one to the other. I would go for the better place in all other respects!

there are a lot of health concerns with carpet. it would be worth it to look into them especially with a baby.

Two kids for me, definately wood with carpet area rugs. The baby will be walking in no time! Also will love to ride his trucks and little scooters on the wood.
