School Fundraising Ideas

I am leading our PTA's fundraising efforts next year and looking for fresh money making ideas. Has your school implemented any new, profitable programs?

About half our elementary school's revenues is generated by a giant chili cook-off in October. In the past, we've supplemented it with an Innisbrook wrapping paper drive, escrip, and miscellaneous agreements with local merchants.

This year we're thinking of doing away with wrapping paper sales, and replacing it with: gift cards sales through scrip.com (we pay discount, but customers pay face value) and/or an eco-friendly line of catalog products (e.g., greenraising.com).

Any experience/thoughts are much appreciated!

I work at an environmental charter school - we try to steer clear of selling of stuff that people may not usually really want, but will buy just to support the kids and the school.

We have tried to combine fundraising with community building by having the students offer various services like helping rake the yard, or bringing in and putting away groceries for grandmom once a week - things that either help family or community in some way.

We have also tried roller skating for cash - number of times around rink gives you a certain amount of money. Something more fun for the adults was an adults night out, with babysitting included.

The first one - where kids actually participate in the service has provided the most amount of money as well as students having to participate in helping both their own school and community.
